The Queensland Steel Construction and Fabrication Industry Alliance has been developed as a means for the industry to work together to maximise the current steel local content share in Queensland and develop a climate of secure, long-term industry investment in the Queensland steel industry.

Ongoing trends within the Queensland resource, mining and infrastructure marketplace to engage steel fabrication and manufacturing services off shore, have negatively impacted the Queensland steel construction and fabrication industry.

The Alliance is endeavouring to work with Government, politicians, community and affiliated industries to reverse this trend and develop a strong future for Queensland.

Alliance Aims

  1. To increase the political and community understanding of the vulnerability of the steel fabrication and manufacturing sector in the global marketplace;
  2. To promote the highest quality assurance and compliance within Queensland steel industry;
  3. To develop, in a collaborative framework, mechanisms to ensure  industry security and confidence.

Need for the Alliance

The increase in using off shore services impacts:

  • Quality and compliance of end products such as buildings
  • Confidence by local industry to invest in innovation, impacting Queensland's reputation
  • Entire Queensland supply chain from engineers to drafting services, metal fabrication to steel construction workers, and transport companies.

The reduction in Queensland's local content share impacts:

  • Financial viability of Queensland small businesses.
  • Employment security within the industry and local communities.
  • Training of next generation skilled workers.
